1. Battery

For electric models especially, it will be important to check the condition of the battery. You’ll want to monitor how well it can hold a charge and look for any signs of corrosion. In some cases you’ll be able to simply clean the battery, but sometimes you may have to completely replace it.

2. Oil Change

For gas golf carts, it will be important to complete an oil change. These models require you to maintain the combustible engine! The oil keeps all internal parts operating smoothly and prevents grinding and damage. If the golf cart did not come with the owner’s manual, you should be able to find a copy of it online or at your local dealership. This will guarantee you use the correct type of oil. 

3. Tires

The tires on a golf cart are also very important for safe operation and to stay in good condition. You’ll want to check the air pressure and overall condition of each tire. You may need to add air, patch a leak or completely replace the tires in case of worn tread. 

In more severe cases, you may need to replace the wheels as well as the tires. 

4. Lighting

The lights on your golf cart are critical for visibility and they should be regularly checked for functionality. It’s also helpful to regularly clean the headlights to maintain strong visibility. If you intend to operate your golf cart on public roads, this step is especially important to complete. 

5. Spark Plugs

A more technical service task that will likely need completed is changing the spark plugs. Depending on how much the golf cart is used, they may wear more quickly. Before you take your golf cart on its first outing, you should check the condition of the spark plugs and replace them if necessary.
