The Battery
One of the major components is the battery. In the worst-case scenario, your batteries may only last you three years. In the best-case scenario, they may last you ten years. Here is how to keep them healthy.
Charge Your Batteries
It is best if you charge your cart before the battery goes dead. Avoid letting your battery drain completely. The best practice is to charge it overnight using an automatic golf cart charger. Do not overcharge your battery.
Add Battery Water
You also need to keep a close eye on the water levels in them, approximately every month. The lead plates in your batteries need to be submerged. If you check the water levels in your batteries and they’re not submerged, you’ll need to add water to bring them back up. To do this, ensure your battery is fully charged. Then, add distilled water, not tap water, to the appropriate level.
Clean The Connections
Go ahead and check the connections on your battery as well. All the connections should be clean and tight. They shouldn’t have any corrosion or dirt coating. If they do, create a solution using water and baking soda and clean them.
Change Your Oil
You’ll need to replace your engine oil and filter semi-annually. Generally, best practice is once it hits around 125 rounds or 600 miles of usage. However, if your golf cart is used often, you’ll want to check on it more than that.
Inspect Your Brakes
Most golf carts have a limited speed level. As a result, the brakes on golf carts won’t wear out as quickly as the brakes on other vehicles. But you should still make it a habit to inspect the braking system. The brake pads, drums, and cables all need to be inspected and potentially adjusted to keep them working correctly.
Check Your Tires
You also want to inspect your tires and check that they have the right amount of air pressure.
By taking this step, you’ll prevent your tires from wearing out more quickly than they should. You’ll also make your golf cart ride a lot smoother.
