Cleaning a Used Golf Cart
One of the first things you’ll want to do after purchasing a used golf cart is clean it up. Although it may have already undergone inspection and a general detail, it’s important to give it a good deep cleaning. We’ve put together a guide to help you make your golf cart shine!
1. Gather the Right Supplies
Before you begin cleaning, it’s helpful to gather all of the supplies you’ll need. Having the right tools will make the task much easier and faster to complete.
Here is what we recommend you have on hand before you begin cleaning your golf cart:
- Water, in either a bucket or hose
- Dish soap or a specialized cleanser
- Rubber gloves
- Mildew remover
- Aluminum cleaner
- Color restorer
- Microfiber towels
- Soft-bristle brush
- Polish or wax
You may need different amounts of each cleaner type, depending on how much grime needs to be removed.
2. Remove All Belongings and Begin Cleaning
The golf cart should have been removed of all belongings before you purchased it, but you should definitely double check all the nooks and crannies before you hit the course! Once you’ve made sure everything is removed, park the golf cart somewhere with good drainage so the soap and cleaners can be properly disposed of.
You can begin rinsing the golf cart, focusing especially on areas with any mud or grime buildup. Ridding the golf cart of any excess grime now will make scrubbing a lot simpler.
3. Wipe Down All Plastic
With your dish soap, water, and towel, focus on wiping down all plastic areas of your golf cart. This includes the seats, cup holders, dashboard, and body. Avoid using dish soap on the windshield, though!
If there are areas that need extra attention, you may need to scrub and reapply soap several times.
4. Rinse
You will want to rinse off the plastic and allow it to dry before you move onto removing mildew, cleaning the aluminum, and adding wax or polish. It’s ideal to rinse the areas you’ve scrubbed with a second towel that you’ve wet instead of spraying it all down with a hose. Using a wet rag will prevent water from getting into any electronic components.
5. Specialized Cleaning
Now that you’ve removed the soapy water mix and allowed it to dry, you can move onto the specialized cleaning aspects. You may need to pay special attention to removing any mold or mildew. You can find special cleansers or use a diluted bleach solution.
You will also want to look at the condition of the body color and aluminum aspects. They may need to be restored.
Finally, make sure to disinfect all high-trafficked areas of the golf cart, such as the steering wheel and controls.
